 The organized picks and early round one standings are up on
the site. We chose 30 golfers. No one is anywhere close to
unanimous. Young Rory is the favorite, picked by 11 players.
Adam Scott and D.J. tied for 2nd most popular golfer, chosen 10
times each. Nine of us didn't know Jason Day was going to get
his thumb stuck in his ass while whacking it watching Tiger do a
South Beach Waffle House waitress and withdraw. Spieth and
Garcia show up on 7 teams each. Dufner got the nod 6 times.
Kuchar and Bradley are 4-baggers. Poor Tiger, and his "bad
back" is demoted all the way down to a trey, along with Fowler,
Watson, Stricker and Frenchman Victor Dubuisson. The deuces
include Donald, Mahan, Mickelson, Rose, Westwood and Walker.Ten unique picks. Chris leads with 3. Bill and Mike M. have 2 each. Brett, Steve and Dave A. have one each. The remaining 9 of us didn't find a Doral match for our picks. We opened it up a little bit more on the picks this week, but with the top 50 in the world playing it's tough to come up with any dark horses. We've got the highest number of total picks so far this year and the highest percentage of uniques, deuces or treys (70%). It's a brand new course, and a hell of a lot longer and tougher than the old one. From the little bit of play I saw today, I think the designer forgot that the wind can blow in South Florida. Lots of shaved banks and greens and fairway edges sloping toward water. The storm that's hitting the course Thursday afternoon looks pretty foul. I read they just finished planting many of the palm trees last week. I don't imagine they took root, so they will have to stand those suckers back up after this storm. I think they are probably done golfing for the day. It's our first "Tiger May Care" event of the year (though this week I guess we don't really care about him) and with this nice set of picks and all these top golfers, if there is a golf course left to play, we're gonna have a hell of a good one...
