Mike M. Wins The Northern Trust Championship!

After a bit of a summer break, he's back...

The Rule 20-6 Golf Pool Tournament #17 trophy.Eight players had both winner Dustin Johnson and playoff loser Jordan Spieth, so it took more than the top 2 to win this week.  Mike M. was the only player with 5 top 10 finishers and won by $5,824 over Brian T.  Mike was also the only player with all 7 on his team making the cut and that was the real difference.  It was his 4th tournament victory of the year.  Brian T. had 4 top 10 golfers but only 6 cut makers who couldn't quite win enough to pass Mike.  It was Brian's 5th 2nd place finish of the year and 6th cash.  I managed 3rd place, $85,745 behind Brian, thanks to my golfers different from Brian and Mike half-assing their way home on Sunday.  Steve was 4th, $54,163 behind me.

There was a massive shake-up in the Summer Season standings.  I moved up from 5th place to take the lead.  Brian T. came up from 7th to 2nd place and trails me by $86,469.  Dave moved up 2 spots to 3rd and is $110,470 behind Brian.  Dan is on the money bubble, up 2 spots from last week, and $142,643 short of Dave.  Less than $950k separates 1st and 8th places.  I don't remember a Season race ever being this close going into the last tournament.

With one tournament to go Brian T. is looking pretty good in the Year-Long race.  He leads Mike M. by just over $2 million.  I came up from 5th place to 3rd and trail Mike by $723,727.  Steve also jumped up 2 places, to 4th, and is $646,038 out of the final cash position.

This is it.  The final tournament of the year and the fat is in the fire.  Half of the Pool has a very real shot at the Summer Season title... at least 5 are in the running for the "TMC" crown... passing Brian in the Year-Long may be tough but the other 2 money spots could still be had by several players... this is what it's all about.  We head to the Northeast coast and the Boston area for the final event, The Dell Technologies Championship at the TPC Boston in Norton, Mass.  This one used to be called The Deutsche Bank Championship, but it still starts on Friday and ends on Labor Day Monday.  That will give us an extra day to plan our strategies.  This is being played close to the home of the New England Patriots, so a certain amount of cheating will be allowed.

Get those picks in on time.

Later,
