Bill Wins The British Open! |
It took some strong picking to finish in the money this week, let alone win... |
Bill was the only players to have all of his picks make the
cut and he needed all 7 golfers to win this week, topping Steve
by $3,333. It was Bill's 2nd consecutive major win, tying that
record. The victory also completed his career Grand Slam, only
the 2nd player to do so (Dave B. was the first). It took 4 golfers in the top 6 just to finish in the money this week. The top 3 all had winner Phil, T3s Adam Scott and Lee Westwood, and T6 Tiger (plus also-ran T58 Graeme McDowell). Second place finisher Steve had T26 Ernie Els and M/C Justin Rose left versus Bill's T32 Jason Day and T54 Paddy Harrington. Ernie couldn't quite earn enough for Steve to pass Bill, but he did manage to pass me as Day went Red Grange (77) on me today and Ernie's final round Merlin Olsen (74) was enough to knock me back to 3rd. My six made-cut golfers were all the same as Bill's. Dave A. caught the bubble spot this week. Obviously Bill remained in 1st in the Summer Season standings. I moved up to 2nd from 5th. Mike D. stayed in the final money spot. Steve came up from 8th to 4th. When you win both tournaments of a pool you should be leading it and Bill is doing just that at the midway point of the "T.M.C." I moved up one spot to 2nd and Hugh jumped 2 places to 3rd. Steve made a nice leap from 10th to 4th. A lot of movement in the Year-Long standings. Bill still leads and he increased his lead to just over $1.3 million. Brett moved up 2 spots to 2nd place, Jordie went from 5th to 3rd and Steve also made a 2 position advance to 4th. Randy and Chris were the unfortunate 2 to drop from the top 4. 2nd and 7th are separated by just over $1 million and with 5 tournaments still to go I expect a lot more moving around in these and all standings. We have next week off so rest up kids, you are going to need it. After the one off week we play our last 5 tournaments in 6 weeks. I'm gonna need to take a cart. In about 10 days we head to lovely Akron, Ohio and Firestone Country Club for the W.G.C.-Bridgestone Invitational. All the big names will be there to collect their free money and enjoy the Akron nightlife. Wish I could go up there and party with those wild guys, but I'm sure I have something to do. If not I'm sure I'll find something to avoid having to go to the Texas of Ohio, Akron/Cleveland. Get those picks in on time. Later, |
