Brian Wins The WGC-Match Play! |
And jeez, it's about time... |
At the sweet 16 we were looking like we really knew what we
were doing. We had 11 of the 16, including a couple of uniques.
But 7 of those 11 lost, then 3 of the 4 we had left lost in the
quarter finals. So what looked like was going to be an
exciting, down-to-the-wire Sunday finish turned into a bore,
though the final match and the French Houdini were pretty good
TV. All the pool money spots were decided after Saturday's
matches and Brian, thanks in large part to a perfect 7 for 7
round one, won by $100k over Steve and Hugh. Brian's victory
ended a 56 tournament winless streak for him, his last win being
the 2010 BMW Championship. Hugh and Steve, who tied for
2nd, finished one first
round win ahead of Shelley, who ended up on the money bubble. I posted everything before the "official" results were put up on that pathetic website, but since the purse is simple and was published on Saturday, I'm pretty sure everything is correct. Steve extended his Spring Season lead to just over $850k. Shelley moved up from 6th to 2nd. Mike M. came up one spot to 3rd and trails Shelley by just under $25k. I jumped 3 spots to 4th. No time to rest. We are at it again this week near my old stomping grounds, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, at PGA National Golf Club for the Honda Classic. The field is pretty good though the same can't be said for the course; yet another Nicklaus abortion. But if the wind blows on Sunday it will be an exciting finish. I can tell you from personal experience the "Bear Trap" is a bitch in the wind. I have played it in 2 under and also put the ball in my pocket on every hole. They should play match play on that course. Or turn a couple of bulldozers loose on it. Get those picks in on time. Later, |
