Chris Wins The WGC-Bridgestone Invitational! |
And he didn't even need Tiger... |
It took more than just the top 2 finishers to cash this week.
Four players had winner Rory McIlroy and 2nd place Sergio
Garcia. Chris had four of the top 7 finishers, including unique
pick t4 Patrick Reed, 5 top 10's and despite having Tiger on his
team won by $36,125 over Bill. It was Chris' 3rd win of the
year. Bill also had 5 top 10's, but only 3 top 7's. Dan
finished 3rd with 4 top 10's and edged out 4th place Brian by
$10,500, thanks mostly to Brian's pick of Tiger deciding he
didn't want to post a bad score and, once again, faked back pain
and withdrew. As a whole the pool did a hell of a job picking
this week. We had 10 of the top 11 golfers and 14 of the top
18. I stayed in 1st place in the Summer Season race, but my lead was cut by more than half. Bill, Dan and Chris all moved up one spot to 2nd, 3rd and 4th, respectively. Steve dropped from 2nd to 5th. Less than $1.25 million separates 1st and 5th, so this one's still wide open. In the Year-Long pool, Steve and I flip-flopped 1st and 2nd again, this week being my turn to hold the lead. Hugh is still third, but he closed the gap on 2nd, trailing Steve by a bit over $1 million. Dan moved up one to the bubble spot and is just over $1.6 million out of the last money position. No time to rest. We are going at it again this week in the year's final major, "Glory's Last Shot", the PGA Championship, at Valhalla G.C. in "Lu-vul, Ktuky". Play starts this Thursday at 7:30. This is our last big money major of the year and the third of four "Tiger May Withdraw" event of the Summer Season. This course has a history of "nobodys" playing well, so a well chosen unique might go a long way. Or it may drive you into the gutter. I think, however, there will be unanimous pick this week. And I'm betting it's not Tiger. Get those picks in on time. Later, |
