The Phoenix Open Picks Are Up! |
Season 15 is underway... |
The picks and round one standings for the
year's first event are on the site. Fifteen of us chose 28
golfers. Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth and Hideki Matsuyama tied for
the favorite, picked 13 times each. Rickie Fowler showed up on
12 teams. Alex Noren made the cut for 7 of us. Justin Thomas
got the nod 5 times. Tony Finau, Ryan Palmer, Webb Simpson and
Long John Holmes were all 4-baggers. Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar
and Charley Hoffman are treys. The deuces are Billy Horschel
and The Phil. Lucky 13 uniques for week one. Randy, Hugh, Mike M., Mike D. and Oliver lead with 2 each. Dan, Joe and Brian G. have one each. The other 7 of us will not know the joys and pains of the almighty Unique Pick this week. We lost one player from last year but we picked up two new folks. Unfortunately I did not find out about new guys until late Tuesday and the withdraw until Wednesday night, so I couldn't get the new players set up in the system in time for this week's tournament. They will be starting week 2 at the L.A. Open. The new players are Mike A. and Tom M. Both guys used to work at Fishers Island with Dan and Randy (maybe Oliver and Andrew too, not sure about that). Mike is now the Head Golf Professional at Green Spring Valley Club in Maryland. Tom is the Head Golf Professional at Ekwanok C.C. in Vermont. More golf pros so that means more tough teams to battle. We need to find some players who don't know anything about golf. Everybody work on that. Since we netted one player and are up to 17, the purses will go up a bit this year. Regular tournaments will pay $55 for 1st place, $29 for 2nd and $18 for 3rd. The Masters will pay $92 for the winner, $48 for 2nd and $30 for 3rd. The Spring Season will be $101-$53-$33. The Year-Long will be $110-$58-$36. Those percentages are pretty much the same as last year. If we don't pick up anyone for the Summer Season those will be the payouts for the whole year. We have 4 pretty clear favorites this week. After that no golfer was picked by more than half of the players. And almost half the picks are uniques. That'll keep things real. We, of course, have to deal with that "stadium" hole and all the Arizona fans who want to go to a golf tournament and act like Philadelphia or New England football fans. I think the stadium around that par 3 is a lot bigger than the last time I watched this tournament. I don't remember 3 decks. Hey, it's not something that's spreading to other tour events, so let it happen once a year. Why shouldn't one hole on the PGA Tour be like the 18th green at Bushwood C.C. during the caddy tournament? Fans should be allowed to yell anything they want at any time on that hole. If you are going to go against traditional golf etiquette and practices then fucking do it. I better hear "Noonan! Miss it!" at least once this week. Whether that happens or not you know there's gonna be some good golf pooling going on... yea, it's that time again... Let's get it on! Later, |
