The British Open Picks Are Up! |
We are all over the map with this international field... |
The organized picks and round one standings for this year's
third major are up on the site. We chose 30 golfers. No one
was even close to unanimous. Tiger, Phil and Justin tied for
the favorite spot, picked 11 times each. Westwood and Day
(Jason, not Glenn) are the next most popular choices, showing up
10 times each. Last year's Open Championship choker and current
Masters champion, Adam Scott, and Gray-me McDowell were on 8
lists each. Defending champ, The Big Easy, Ernie Els got the
nod 5 times. Kuchar is the only trey. Lots of deuces:
Harrington, Grace, Colsaerts, Manassero, Schwartzel, Cabrera and
Dustin Johnson. Plenty of uniques; 14 in all. Dave B. is the leader with 3. Jordie, Shelley and Mike M. have 2 each. Brett, Brian and Chris have one each. The remaining 8 players are uniqueless this week. This is probably the wildest set of picks I can remember for a major. But it is the British Open, so some craziness in the picks, like the tournament itself, is to be expected. We have no true favorites, but 5 pretty popular picks, then the gambling begins. We actually had someone pick an amateur. Just in case it's not clear or my jokes during the Pebble Beach tournament mislead anyone, we base this pool on golfers' money winnings. Amateurs playing in a professional tournaments don't get any money winnings. Just wanted to clarify that. I won't call out the player who did this since I'm sure he has a lot of pride being the all-time leading money winner in this pool and it might embarrass him... but I gotta say that was probably the worst pick since several people went with Michelle Wei way back when. Hell he'll probably end up winning anyway. The course is playing the way golf was meant to be played, hard and fast. If the wind would pick up we'd have what would be just a really damn good one... and it's gonna be anyway, it's the Open Championship... Let's Get It On! Later, |
