The British Open Picks Are Up! |
We're back to playing'em tight for the majors... |
The picks and round one standings for the year's 3rd major are
on the site. We chose 22 golfers. Jason Day and Dustin Johnson
are both unanimous picks, so everyone is down to 5 golfer
teams. Sergio shows up on 12 teams. Eleven of us like Jordan
Spieth. Adam Scott got the nod 10 times. Brandon Grace and
Rory were picked 9 times each. Andy Sullivan is a 4-bagger.
Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson are this week's treys. Tons of
deuces: Scott Piercy, Charl Schwartzel, Danny Willett, Shane
Lowry, Patrick Reed, Lee Westwood and Zach. Five uniques for the week. Dave and Chris have 2 each. Oliver has one. The remaining 13 of us will not have a unique to watch hacking it from the heather and gorse. The purse distribution percentages are official, so the standings will be accurate, but the actual dollar amounts will most likely be different at the end. The R&A announces the purse in pounds, as they should, but I never seem to use the same exchange rate that the PGA Tour uses. And since we use the winnings posted on PGATour.com, we'll have to see what they come up with this year. We went back to fairly tight golf pooling for this major; right in between our incredibly tight Masters of 17 golfers and barely tight U.S. Open of 27. I expect 32 or 12 for the PGA, hopefully 32. We have some pretty clear favorites and the unique picks are pretty thin, but we have lots of deuces and treys to separate the field. The Scottish golf gods took it easy on them in the first round. It was an awfully nice day for a British Open. I think they're going to make up for that on Friday; 20 mph winds and rain are predicted. That's what I want to see at a British Open, make'em suffer. A stingy set of picks and inconsistent Scottish weather, and hell it's a major, means it's just gotta be a good one... Let's Get It On! Later, |
